Interest Areas

Empowerment is something which affects all parts of modern life. But as a starting point six key empowerment areas have been identified:

Young people   Rural   Neighbourhoods
Young people   Rural   Neighbourhoods

There are many barriers that prevent young people from realising their potential. Empowerment can support young people to become confident, resilient citizens playing an active part in shaping their communities.

People living in rural areas are finding their voice to empower themselves. Communities are actively addressing significant livelihood, social isolation and quality of life challenges that living in rural communities creates.

Viva la Neighbourhood! Neighbourhoods need involved residents to thrive. Increasingly residents, local councillors, public bodies and businesses are working together to make neighbourhoods enjoyable, cohesive and economically productive places to live and work.

Social Enterprise   Asset Transfer   Special Interest
Social enterprise   Asset Management and Transfer   Special Interest

Considerable creativity, entrepreneurial energy and determination go into the creation a social enterprise.  The people driving them demonstrate what empowered, value driven, socially minded citizens can achieve.

Considerable empowerment progress has been made in communities where the ownership and management of a community asset has been transferred over to local people. Their inspirational stories highlight perseverance, staying power and a belief in the power of 'community action' to bring about change.

Citizens in a democracy have a powerful and privileged position.  We can, and often do, act in empowered ways to ensure that whatever our individual passion is we can affect change.
